Why Your Shin Pain Keeps Coming Back

Shin splints—medically known as medial tibial stress syndrome—are a common cause of lower-leg pain in runners, court-sport athletes, and anyone who trains with repetitive impact.

They occur when repeated stress overloads the muscles and connective tissue along the shin bone, leading to micro-damage and poor healing. While often labeled as inflammation, many ongoing cases are actually the result of tissue that never fully repairs, which is why pain returns when training increases.

Common symptoms include:

  • Pain or tenderness along the inner shin

  • Discomfort that worsens with running or jumping

  • Recurring flare-ups despite rest or stretching

How Shockwave Therapy Treats Shin Splints

At CT Sports Recovery, we treat shin splints using focused shockwave therapy—a non-invasive treatment designed to stimulate healing at the source.

Focused shockwave therapy:

  • Increases blood flow to poorly healed tissue

  • Stimulates collagen repair and tissue remodeling

  • Reduces pain by calming overactive nerve signaling

  • Strengthens the area to better tolerate impact

Rather than simply resting and hoping symptoms don’t return, shockwave therapy helps the tissue heal properly so athletes can train with confidence.

What to Expect

  • Treatments last 15–20 minutes

  • No injections, no surgery, no downtime

  • Most athletes continue training with guidance

  • Each leg is treated and charged separately

How Many Treatments Are Needed?

Most athletes require 3–6 treatments per side, depending on:

  • How long symptoms have been present

  • Severity of pain

  • Training volume and sport demands

Typical investment:
$550–$1,100 per side

Why Shockwave Therapy Is Worth It

Focused shockwave therapy has strong evidence for treating chronic shin splints and may help prevent progression to more serious injuries like stress fractures. It offers long-lasting relief without injections or prolonged time off.

While focused shockwave therapy is often priced significantly higher, our rates are intentionally below typical market pricing. We’ve built our clinic to be efficient and accessible because we believe athletes at every level deserve access to high-quality recovery care.

Stop Chasing Relief. Start Healing.

If shin pain is limiting your training or performance, shockwave therapy may be the next step.
